Musical Beds

Kinnie goes down for a nap at 1:30 pm on her bed. Andrew goes down for a nap at 1:40 pm on my bed. Andrew wakes up from his nap at 2:15 pm (his usual half hour nap)! Kinnie walks out of her room at 2:30 pm. She asks "Where daddy be?" I say "Daddy's at school, do you want to come lay on mommy's bed?" I put her on my bed and tell her to close her eyes. She falls back asleep on my bed, 2:35. I can tell Andrew is still tired. It is a miracle, he goes back to sleep. I put him in his crib and he sleeps for 5 min. He wakes up because his binky pops out or for some other reason. He falls back asleep, I decide what the heck, lets try Kinnie's bed. He sleeps for 5 more minutes.
I know it is stupid to be putting Andrew in all of these different places, totally inconsistent but trust me I have tried to be consistent and it doesn't work. I guess I have one of "those" babies that just doesn't sleep. He will be awake for 3 hours and take a half hour nap, I am learning to accept this as his schedule, it is hard, but I am trying. It is funny that I still have hope every time I put him down that he will sleep for at least an hour. And I think Kinnie is attempting to give up her naps, she has been taking one hour naps the past week when it used to be at least two.
I think I am going crazy! Hopefully Kinnie is not done with her naps and is just going through a weird phase. Maybe if we all took a nap together everyone would sleep a little bit longer, just don't know if I can give up that precious time when the kids are asleep to get things done...oh wait, I don't have that precious time anyways.
P.S. Any advice is welcome!

Oh the joys of motherhood huh?!!! With Lydia she was the exact same way. She wouldn't sleep either...unless I was holding her, then she'd sleep forever and since I just had her we just laid and slept together for hours. And then...right when she turned 6 months it was like this light that went off in her mind that she realized she would like to try and sleep alone. So from 6 months on, she slept 12 hours a night and took 2 naps a day for about 2-3 hours each. It was awesome.

And with Kinnie, my advice is if she's really done with naps then just have her go to her room for quiet time (do it when Andrew is down) then you still get your time alone. Lydia (3 yrs old) just stopped napping but still goes to her room for quiet time and LOVES it. She "reads" books and plays with quiet toys.
The key is Andrew's sleeping though. It happens at different times with each kid so I wish you luck!!!!

Oh my gosh, Nicole! I was feeling a tiny bit bad for myself because Joshy has only been taking one decent nap. He's been doing better at night so I was trying not to feel too badly for myself. He sleeps in the swing though, even at night. I'm so sorry Andrew won't sleep!!!! That really is so hard and frustrating and you just know they need more. Don't give up on Kinnie's nap and if she really is through I totally did the quiet time too with my older kids. Ben just gave his up lately and these days can get long especially when both boys are cranky from not napping!

I'm so sorry about all of these sleeping fiascos! I hope that you are at least getting good sleep at night. It is so hard to be a patient mommy if you aren't getting good sleep and little breaks from your kids in the day. I don't have much advice because we have really lucked out in the sleep department with our girls (we'll have to see if the luck keeps up with #3). The only thing I can think of is keep putting Kinnie down for naps even if she resists. This may just be a phase and she's not really ready to be done with naps (let's hope). I remember doing some internal mourning when Jane stopped taking naps, and Maren has tried once to stop, but I got her going again...Anyway, good luck!

Maybe it's a second child thing- Emma was the exact same way. She has gotten better and will at least take one decent nap now but she was really a cat napper when she was little. No advice, sorry, but you're not alone! Good luck!

I feel your pain!!!! We do quiet time since he has given up his naps. No other advice just encouragement-you can do it. It will pass so fast and you'll be putting your children on a bus and walking into an empty home, then you can sleep!

Okay that was meant to sound encouraging, but ending up sounding depressing. Sorry!
